Shotgun Talk...

With Terry Hetrick

With the hunting season drawing to a close, many outdoorsmen feel a sense of emptiness as they wipe down their favorite scattergun in preparation for storage until next fall. Why not give that shotgun the attention it deserves and carry it to one of the many clay target ranges available across the country?

Each year more and more families are discovering and enjoying the zesty games offered by clay target shooting. Whether it is skeet, trap or sporting clays, clay target shooting offers year round activity for the entire family. People of all walks of life are finding this intriguing sport to be one they can enjoy as a family or as a wonderful way to entertain business clients.

Clay target shooting originated in this country over 100 years ago as a way to sharpen the off season field shooting skills. It has grown rapidly in the last decade as both a competitive sport and an excellent recreational venture.

Shooting centers across the country are experiencing unthought-of growth as local residents are reaching out for new ways to spend those precious off duty hours with friends and family.

I see new clients each week at my shooting school located in Nashville, TN. Some are highly competitive and looking for that extra target needed for a championship, and some are looking to improve their field shooting skills. Many of my students are just looking for a new way to spend quality time in an activity that is safe, fun, and rewarding.

To get started all you need to do is contact your local clay target range and get directions. For a list of ranges you may contact me direct at . Most facilities offer loaner guns, but your trusty gun in the closet will in most cases are just fine to get you started.

Clay target shooting is a sport open to young and old, ladies and gentlemen. For the last 37 years I have enjoyed this treasured pastime and fell very fortunate to be able to pass my experiences on to others. Good luck and May all your days be filled with broken clays.
