Tennesee’s Wild Side Weekly Fishing Report

Pickwick Lake Fishing Report January 29, 2010

Pickwick Lake Elevation 409
Water Temp. 50

BASS

When the water is starts to stabilize bass fishing will pick up. Try cranking a Strike King Series 3 Crank Bait along the banks in the lake as well as below the Pickwick Dam. Remember to crank your crank bait slow for best results. Keep fishing with natural colors with bright accents. Small grubs also work well right now. I have been Carolina rigging along the banks and that has been pretty productive as well. Bass are pretty tough this time of year and with the weather changes you can have good days and bad days. This is still a good time of year to catch really big bass.

Stripers

I am not doing any striper fishing trips right now mainly because this is just a slow time of the year for them. If I was to take someone striper fishing right now I would depend on a deep diving crankbait to keep the trip interesting. Although I know you can have a good day on live bait and jigs drifting right now, but I would not try it first.

Catfish

I am hearing some reports from cat fishermen in this area. When the flood gates have been close, catfishing below the dam will picked up. Livers and night crawlers have accounted for most of the fish reported.

Sauger

In these conditions I have the most luck in deeper water with red, dark green and brown sauger jigs. The gates being opened has made it a tough year for sauger fishing but we still have as late as may to catch sauger.

White Bass

White bass will save the day if you are justt wanting to catch fish. Nothing else in the Tennesse River or Pickwick Lake is biting like white bass. Use small grubs or minnows with split shots.
